New York City is a bustling hub of business and tourism, alive with energy and the day-to-day stress of its residents. Even New Yorkers need an outlet for anxiety, which is why you can find a yoga studio on almost every avenue of the city. If you got bored of so popular our days Vinyasa or more traditional Hatha yoga that everybody goes to, try these unusual yoga classes in NYC that, I bet you, not a lot of people have tried or even know about. Surprise your friends by taking them to an aqua yoga or yoga in a salt room.
There are many different versions of and features to yoga to choose between
If you’re not a fan of certain yoga poses, an array of asanas exists for you to experiment with until you find a few poses that you enjoy. A good way to find what type of yoga is really for you, check out as many yoga studios as you can.
As for types of yoga, decide what you want to get out of your yogic experience and then base your research on that. For example, yoga Nidra focuses on relaxation and inner calm. This type of yoga can help to soothe your anxiety and give you a few moments of peace in your day.
Yoga works differently for everyone, so if Nidra isn’t for you, try a new type of yoga or meditation style. Yin yoga, Hatha yoga, Kundalini yoga and Bikram yoga are just a few more types of yoga available to you. Test out different styles of yoga until you find one that suits your life style or emotional and physical requirements.
Okay, now that I want to learn yoga, where should I take classes?
The answer to this question depends heavily on your personal preferences. Yoga for beginners is always an option at any studio. If you’re just getting into yoga, it might be more helpful to receive pelatihan at a studio instead of learning yoga at home.
If you live in NYC and you google ‘yoga near me,’ you should expect to see tons of options within walking distance of your location. Make sure to bring your favorite yoga pants, yoga accessories and yoga mat before you head out to explore the yoga studios around you!
Here are some of the studios you should make sure to visit:
WOOM CENTER
WOOM blends technology and spiritual oneness together in its yoga classes. The WOOM CENTER webpage advertises a technologically-enhanced awakening of the five senses during each yoga class.
WOOM yoga rooms feature surround sound, interactive electronic displays, the soothing scents of essential oils and even free after-yoga elixirs made with fresh plants. The ‘touch’ aspect of these yoga classes obviously comes from your physical exercise and yoga asanas. WOOM invites you to feel connected with your fellow humans and surrounding universe while joining the studio in “nondenominational,” “love-driven” yoga. Check out my Instagram Highlights for more pictures and videos from this studio.
Modrn Sanctuary
If you enjoy meditation, try Modrn Sanctuary. This studio surrounds a Himalayan salt room for the benefits of salt therapy, which is said to balance your pH levels, allow deep hydration, heal muscle cramps and regulate your hormone levels.
Modrn Sanctuary is a modern oasis located in the center of NYC. It aims to help its customers relax with its various meditation rooms and treatments. Unlike WOOM CENTER, Modrn Sanctuary actually hopes to work sensory deprivation into its practices through dark decor and natural wood around the studio.
Modrn Sanctuary also offers Crystal Light Bed Therapy, which is a meditative experience while surrounded by seven “sensory” crystals that are meant to help you find inner balance. Or you can take an unusual yoga class. Trust me, your balance will be challenged by uneven hills of salt on the floor.

TMPL gym
Unlike normal city gyms, TMPL does its best to offer unusual exercise options like aqua yoga. Aqua yoga involves floating on a yoga mat over water in TMPL’s Holy Water program.
TMPL classes are each marked with a level of difficulty, which is helpful for those looking for beginner work out sessions or those trying to challenge themselves. Make sure you think ahead and reserve a spot in one of these high-demand yoga classes!

Om Factory
Looking for something totally different? Om Factory offers tons of areal yoga classes to try out. Areal yoga is a type of yoga done by balancing on fabric attached to the ceiling. Students can still do traditional asana with this fabric, they’re just trying poses above the ground.
If you’re interested in going more hard-core areal, Om Factory offers fun classes lie circus conditioning, areal dance and bungee. If you’re more of a yoga fan, Om Factory also offers Vinyasa yoga classes, acroyoga classes and restorative classes to soothe the mind and body. As always, Om Factory offers plenty of classes on yoga for beginners.
